Will Row For Beer

Mixed news from my visit to the Sports Doc on Saturday. The IT Band is still hot, ergo, unhappy. This means my non-running streak continues; currently sitting at 28 days and counting. On the other hand, I did get the go ahead to try rowing and cycling.

Rowing it is! Especially since Lady J and I recently acquired a rowing machine.

Stationary bicycles and treadmills are not for me. I am sure this is 100% psychological. However, a rowing machine I have no issue with. Just turn on the TV – don’t even need sound – and off I go.

An introductory 25 minute session this morning was just what the body needed and the knee and IT Band are doing fine.

You Can Run For Beer

AveryLogoRB

Avery Brewing in Boulder, CO is helping you earn your beer. Every Sunday, they host a fun run from the brewery and back, rewarding those who complete a 3.5 or 5.5 mile loop with a free pint.

Hmmm, seriously thinking of moving to Boulder…

Fort Bend Brewing Open for Business

fortbend

The Houston area’s latest brewery, Fort Bend Brewing, opened its doors Saturday for their first tour. The tour was a sell out and patrons were not disappointed.

Fort Bend Brewing is currently offering four beers, my favorites being the Texas Backyard Blonde and the Texas Thunder Stout. I was a bit disappointed in the Texas Lightning IPA, but the owner, Ty, said they are still working on it.

Texas Backyard Blonde Ale  Texas Thunder Stout

The brewery is not really conducive to a traditional tour, where one hangs out and chills, due to its size. But it is a great place to taste the brewery’s beers and chat with the owner and brew master. Their beers are slowly making inroads at Houston area pubs, bars and restaurants and I certainly hope Houston area establishments continue to provide local selections for their constituents.

Um, we need some beer runs like this in Michigan too. Free after every run? Who does that? CO, apparently.

I'm not a fan of the stationary bike or TM, though we've had to make peace this year. Glad you've got something you can use to stay active until the ITB shapes up.

I'm so with you on this, give me a rowing machine any day over treadmill or elliptical (although randomly I can handle the elliptical far more then I can the treadmill). I've been putting notes in our gym's suggestion box for YEARS begging for a rowing machine. So far, no cigar. Boo! Sorry to hear you're still not allowed to work the ITB. :-/

I will enter any run\race that has free beer at the finish line! Who wouldn't?

.... sorry, the free beer distracted me... I feel your pain with the IT band. Hope it works itself out soon.

I've heard that stationary bikes aren't kind to angry ITBs anyway so it's just as well you hate them. I hope it heals quickly so you can get back to where you want to be - outdoors pounding the pavement.

I hate rowing if only becuase I can then never get "Row, row, row, your boat" out of my head!

Off all the gym machines out there, the rowing machine is least offensive. I hope it speeds your recovery. Cheers!
