Stick It
Back in July I purchased a new car and debated on whether or not to add any bumper stickers to the rear bumper. Unlike my previous auto, the rear bumper is a deep, dark grey and I felt the standard white 26.2 sticker with black lettering was not appropriate.
Fast-forward to the Houston Marathon expo, where I found a sweet black 26.2 sticker with white lettering. Unfortunately, now there is a dilemma on whether or not I should display said sticker
On the one hand, I have run 26 marathons and certainly deserve to show my pride in my accomplishment.
On the other hand, I have essentially run my last marathon, therefore displaying a sticker for a distance I no longer run may be inappropriate.
What say the blogosphere? Display or no display?
Back in the Saddle (sort of)
According to my doctor, today I can start doing things. Things such as foam rolling. Running, unfortunately, is not on the list. Just as well, the knee is definitely not up to it and I suspect, neither is my IT Band.
For the last week it’s been pretty much ice, ice baby; trying to get the swelling down, which has been primarily around the area of the IT Band.
I planned on taking a break through the end of January and maybe into February. But for me, a break means random short runs every now and again based on my whims. That said, instead it means no runs and don’t bother putting on the running shorts, because it’s not going to happen.
Sadly, we are entering that short window of perfect Houston running weather. 40’s in the morning with some light wind or low 50’s over the lunch hour, under sunny skies and a nice breeze. Sigh.
But, recovery takes time and rushing it will do nothing but leave me more prone to another injury. No thanks.

You've finished 26 marathons. If you can't put a 26.2 sticker on your bumper, I don't know who can. It doesn't say Houston Marathon 2013, right? Slap that baby on.
I have seen MANY people run one marathon, bucket list-style, and then do something like put on a bumper sticker or get a tattoo. If you want to do it, you are more than justified :)
Stay humble and age gracefully. No bumpersticker. You already know who and what you are.
Put that sticker on. It will remind you of your success and inspire you every time you think about why it is on your car.
Yes to the sticker. You've done the miles - you've earned the right to tell everyone.
I say yes to the sticker. More than deserving.
You have every right to display that sticker if you wish. You put in the time. Hope the recovery continues to go well. Cheers!
Meh, I've never had the desire to do the sticker... BUT, I do always look at people who have them on their cars & think that we're in the same club.
Yikes, I really hope the leg heals up soon!!
Yes you can put that sticker on! I totally would! You've ran so many marathons!
Ouch on the leg...that sucks. I hope you get better soon.
You have run 26 marathons and you are wondering if you can display the sticker??? Of course you can!
Display it!! Who the F cares whether or not you still run them or not - it's your car and you window and you've run plenty. I don't personally have one but I always smile when I see someone on the road with one in their window - I feel like I'm seeing one of my friends.
So sorry about your knee and the DNF. Rest up and get that thing healed so you can get out there and kick some 5k ass for awhile!
So sorry you are missing out on the great running weather. I'll try to take advantage of it on your behalf. Good luck with the recovery.
Go for the 26.2. Or, total up all 26 of your 26.2 miles raced and get a custom sticker representing the total!
I have run all of one marathon (not a "bucket-list" thing, just happens to only be one so far) and the FIRST thing I did was slap that sticker on my car. It was hard-earned and I am very proud of myself. Also, I love when I see the sticker on other people's car- I feel like we all belong to a great club of running :)
Stickers on my car isn't my thing but you've definitely earned the right to it. I have only done one marathon and feel like I could put one on my car if I wanted.
I'm not one for bumper stickers, but I am one for doing what you want, so I say, "Stick it!"
I have a few running stickers on my car, but I've never put on a 26.2 sticker for some reason. That said, why not?
On the ITB--my worst injury ever a few years back. A few things I learned--don't roll the band itself; it just makes it mad. Do NOT try to stretch it--it's fascia, not muscle, and stretching only makes it worse. Try to find some trigger points in your glutes--probably they are not doing their job and that's why your ITB is overworked. Good luck with it.
I think you should put the dang sticker on your forehead! 26 marathons is A LOT! You're pretty BA.
Do it!
Sorry your ITB is being such a pain in the..... ITB.
I hope it heals soon so you can get back out there and enjoy the weather.
Hang in there.
I will stick put a sticker because it’s a nice decoration for my bumper. I suggest that you should put that sticker on you deserve it.
